Job Description
Responsible for the management & financial management
reporting and accounting services for a $700 million multinational
entertainment services company based in Burbank CA. The
client operates in the US, UK, Singapore and Mexico.
This position partners with the SVP of Finance & Chief
Accounting Officer and key divisional financial leadership
to drive the company’s accounting, controls and reporting
function. Leadership position in finance team to drive a
highly functioning accounting team, constantly improve general
accounting processes and enhance the internal control environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise a professional accounting team
- Oversee external reporting (Discovery Holding Company
– Parent) for a $700 million mulit-division worldwide
company
- Manage the interaction of the general ledger groups
including all subledger support such as accounts payable,
accounts receivable, billing and payroll functions
- Orchestrate the monthly close process for the company,
review and oversee checklists for consolidation and preparation
of financial statement support and analysis required for
financial & SEC reporting
- Drive an effective control environment including quarterly
balance sheet business reviews with divisional accounting
teams
- Generate management reporting that keenly discerns performance
and variances and is systematic, automated, real-time
and insightful.
- Work with finance teams to distribute timely and relevant
information at the facility level
- Drive and manage the ongoing SOX 404 work – show
leadership in thinking as this area technically evolves
- Responsible for overall financial statements analysis
and reporting – responsibilities include consolidating
over 100 reporting units for both domestic and international
operations, internal and external reporting in accordance
with GAAP
- Main liaison with external auditors on quarterly and
annual review of financial statements. Manage and coordinate
year end audit to ensure that all deliverables are met
in a timely manner
- Work with Discovery Holding Company with regards to
quarterly and annual SEC reporting of a public company
- Manage the forecast and analyze monthly corporate shared
services costs
- Responsible for overall maintenance of the general ledger
including monitoring changes to ad-hoc reports, chart
of accounts and additions of newly created business ventures
- Responsible for identifying departmental efficiencies
such as streamlining of non-value added activities and
suggesting ideas to further enhance efficiency in reporting
and analyzing data
- Key technical resource, keep abreast with current and
evolving accounting literature
- Partner with CAO and IT to identify, design and deploy
new technology and systems
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Equivalent
- 10 years experience – CPA required
- Big 4 accounting experience preferred
- Entertainment Industry experience a plus
- Proficient on all PC applications
- Working Knowledge on JD Edwards or any similar general
ledger package a plus
- Leader with proven management & organizational
skills in a fast paced environment – a roll up your
sleeves person who can get results from others
- Strong financial reporting and general ledger background
- Proven decision making/problem solving capability.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities is important
- Consistently meets commitments in a fast paced environment
- Flexible with ability to listen to other point of views
but hold ones ground if needed
- Solid communication skills – oral and written
- High ethical standards is critical
- Candidate must show ability to make meaningful decisions
related to accounting issues for the entire company.
- In addition, candidate must possess strong communication
and leadership skills to address critical ongoing issues
in a fast paced reporting environment.
- Effective interpersonal skills are a must as this position
interacts closely with all business units as well as key
executives and personnel.
- A people person who can lead and empower people, remove
roadblocks for team members and is an advocate for his/her
team.
